Description:  The sculpture ‘Highland’ by Simon Burns-Cox has been made to illustrate the beauty of The Highlands in Scotland. The Thistle is the national emblem. The sculpture is made from Green Guatemalan Marble with a White Portland Stone base. The sculpture was cut and carved both by hand and machine. It was then highly polished by hand. The sculpture ‘Highland’ was designed to represent my ‘response to place’. I live in Scotland and still marvel at the beauty of the Scottish landscape. The sculpture shimmers under light, is beautiful near water and is a good focal point for a garden. It is suitable for both exteriors and interiors. ‘Highland’ is part of the New Exterior Garden Sculpture Collection by Simon Burns-Cox.

RHAPSODY BY SIMON BURNS-COX

Medium: Guatemalan Green Marble and White Italian Carrara Marble Base
Dimensions: 80 x 80 x 2 cm plus base
Date: 2017
Price: £1300 bought directly from Simon Burns-Cox (delivery costs extra) and Made to Order in all dimensions.
Description: The sculpture entitled ‘Rhapsody’ by Simon Burns-Cox was created to illustrate the complexity of love and its beauty with the heart at the centre. The sculpture ‘Rhapsody’  was inspired by the beautiful Metal Work of Morocco. ‘Rhapsody’ is handcrafted and made from Green Guatemalan Marble which shimmers under light. It has a White Italian Carrara marble base. The design was initially created and hand drawn and then transferred onto the marble. The marble was then delicately cut by hand and machine to create the lace effect. It was then highly polished by hand. The sculpture looks lovely with under-lighting as the Green Marble shimmers in the light. It is also beautiful near water or as a focal point for a garden or as an interior sculpture. ‘Rhapsody’ was created as part of New Exterior Garden Sculpture collection by Simon Burns-Cox.
Simon Burns-Cox creates beautiful handmade exterior garden sculptures and carved reliefs for walls for all types of garden. He works primarily in stone and marble but also in other media such as slate, alabaster, wood and metal. These sculptures and reliefs are often bespoke and unique commissions which are created specifically for an individual garden.
There is an initial consultation with the client and an on-site visit to discuss installation if required. Simon will discuss with the client the ideas for the design, the choice of material to be used, the size of the sculpture and its overall finish, the timescale and the costs involved. The client will be kept fully informed throughout the whole process.

THE USE OF SCULPTURE IN GARDENS

Sculpture is often used as a focal point in a garden but it can be equally used to lead you to other parts of the hidden garden along paths or areas tucked under trees or walls.
An exterior garden sculpture or relief is like a piece of art in a gallery with the surroundings acting as a backdrop to the work. You need to consider the size, shape, colours, and texture of the work. Stone is particularly good for sculpture in a garden: it is durable and blends in well with nature.
Before placing the sculpture in the garden, you also need to think about the light, space and the surrounding landscape. Water and lighting also interact well with sculpture creating an illusion and a more complex and enchanting environment.
Some of the most popular types of outdoor sculpture reflect nature, abstract forms and human heads or figures.
If you would like to purchase or commission a sculpture for your garden, please contact Simon who will be happy to discuss your requirements.
