All the headstones, gravestones, and memorials that I make are unique bespoke and handcarved individual pieces of work. When a client asks me how much it will cost, this will depend on the following factors: On average a small single plaque or headstone will start from about £1500 upwards depending on requirements. Scottish Rugby and The Doddie Weir Award

Simon Burns-Cox and Steven Murray who are based at The Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop have recently completed a commission for Scottish Rugby. They were asked to make this year's Hall of Fame Award 2020 for Mr Doddie Weir. The bronze sculpture of a rugby cap is replicated each year with the recipient's name carved into the slate base. Carrara Marble

When people ask me to recommend what type of marble they should use for carving, I usually suggest using the 'old' type of Italian Carrara marble as its much easier to carve. This type of marble has been used for centuries by all the great sculptors of the world who often went to the mines in Carrara to select their stone and they still do today.

High Raised Stone Letter Carving

I have just finished a gravestone plaque in The Dean Cemetery in Edinburgh where I was required to use high raised stone letter carving. I was asked to add additional names and dates to an old limestone plaque dating from 1925 when this type of letter carving was more common.
